“Climbing the Waterfall of the Dragon Gate”

This tattoo is inspired by a woodblock printing,

 called “Climbing the Waterfall of the Dragon Gate”,

 from the Japanese artist Maruyama Okyo.

 It’s linked to tales of the carp managing to climb the waterfall, 
and reaching the imaginary Dragon Gate, 
then transforming itself in a dragon. 

It’s linked to courage and perseverance.
